What are API standards for Oil and Gas?
API Q1 – Specification for Quality Management System Requirements for Manufacturing Organizations for the Petroleum and Natural Gas Industry
Q1 is based on the ISO 9001 approach. Originally Q1 was for both Manufacturing and Service organisation. However but since the Q1 9th Edition became effective on 1st June 2014, it now concentrates on Manufacturing. The emphasis is on the controls to ensure product quality and on-time delivery, both at the operational level but also ensuring the Business is aligned in achieving Customer expectations
API Q2 – Specification for Quality Management System Requirements for Service Supply Organizations for the Petroleum and Natural Gas Industry
Developed to cover Service and Service-product supply. Previously API Q1 Specification had covered both Manufacturing and Service organisations but the decision was made that cover the different requirements to better cover the differing requirements
Q2 was developed particular for the provisions of services and service-related products to the exploration, development and production sectors of the Industry. The emphasis is on the controls to ensure product quality and on-time delivery, both at the operational level but also ensuring the Business is aligned in achieving Customer expectations
API Monogram
Allows the marking of your products with the API Logo, once certified that they comply to one of the API Technical Specifications. Examples of the Specifications are:
- Spec 5L Specification for Line Pipe
- Spec 6A Specification for Wellhead and Christmas Tree Equipment
- Spec 6D Specification for Pipeline Valves
- Spec 7K Specification for Drilling and Well Servicing Equipment
- Spec 17K Specification for Bonded Flexible Pipe
Note – Organisations need to comply with the requirements of API Q1 Standard even if they do not request an API Q1 certificate
